The client wants to copy the documents, pictures, videos and music to his backup drive. I am about to write him a batch script to do that.
In the interim I was trying to get him to do manual backups and just copying the top level folders seemed easiest as he's not a technical guy.The thinking is to protect him from the Crypto viruses as without backups there is no easy way to recover back from this kind of ransomware.I don't like Windows' inbuilt backup as it puts too much into single compressed files so that if your backup drive develops a bad sector and that happens to be in the middle of the compressed backup file, you have lost a whole swathe of your files in one move. With individual xcopy type operations 1 bad sector means only 1 file lost not the lot!I just don't get why Windows can't understand if a user copies the top level library that it should copy the folders that the library points to, to the backup drive. He isn't using loads of different locations just the standard C:UsersUsernameDocument s Pictures Videos Music folders. Nobus,I understand libraries and as an IT consultant who has dealt with non-technical users over the years since libraries were created I can tell you that for non-technical users they are a nightmare. The amount of times I have had clients create multiple references to the same folder or more usually different parts of the same folder hierarchy. You then get the scenario where they have say a Pictures (actual folder) with hundreds of subfolders for each day they imported pictures from their digital camera. Then for some unknown reason will add one of those subfolders as another location to their Pictures library.

Microsoft Support Engineer. I’m running A Dell PC that had Windows 8.1 installed, and was updated to Windows 10. The system has become unstable when trying to update Microsoft system files. The error message when the update fails is KB3081438-Error 0x800f031.I tried running the Windows Update – Trouble shooter. It finds errors and says they are fixed. The system crashes when trying to rerun Windows Update. The crash is a blue screen with the message CRITICALPROCESS-DIED, followed by an attempt to restart. On restart, I get a black screen with the message NO BOOTABLE DEVICE PRESS F1 OR F2Powering the PC off and starting it fresh brings the system back up (slowly).I tried using the procedure to stop the bits service, wuauserv service, appidsvc service, and cryptsvc service.
Failed Update 0x800f0922
The system crashed when attempting to stop the wuauserv service. The crash had the same symptoms as the update fix.I then tried to run system recovery to back up to an earlier state. The system crashed as the recovery process was running.
The crash also had the same symptoms as the update fix.The system crashes if I just leave it alone. I’m guessing that it crashes every time the Windows Update runs on its own.I can hopefully roll the entire Windows 10 installation back via a reinstall. But would prefer to just apply an easier fix.HelpFred Kemper. I was getting 0x800f0831 for a different update.
And on Server 2012 R2. After multiple unsuccessful iterations of DISM and SFC, I found an entry in the CBS.log.2017-04-17 09:31:31, Error CBS Failed to resolve package 'Package272forKB318533131bf3856ad364e35amd646.3.1.4' HRESULT = 0x800f0831 - CBSESTORECORRUPTION2017-04-17 09:31:31, Info CBS Mark store corruption flag because of package: Package272forKB318533131bf3856ad364e35amd646.3.1.4. Kb4489899 Error 0x800f0922
I don't know if this was something that we did wrong, or if there was a problem with KB4012213 that it was trying to install. I downloaded KB3185331 and installedit. After the reboot, all of the other patches then installed ok. So maybe the solution to 0x800f0831 is to (re)apply the fix that it flags as corrupt.Hopes this helps. Here is the command sequence that I have been using.
