Meh, if people want to fly carriers, they're welcome to. Personally, though, I wish they'd either improve pet AI (and command responsiveness) or just make all pet weapons 360 degree firing. But they'll do neither of those, because reasons.I'll fly my Sarr Theln mostly because I like flying my pure carrier. No random person over the internet can really stop me anyway. Also being said, I don't bother with difficulties above normal because I generally don't care to do them, so don't really bother with improving my build in order to play higher difficulties, which is probably why I'm fine with flying a full-fledged carrier. Questions on fleet ships: 1) Can fleet modules be obtained in any other way other than purchase for zen or EC on the exchange? 2) Do you need a ship token (space) for your fleet ship like any other ship, and if you do, can you delete a lower level ship to make room for that slot? Fleet ships are essentially 10% upgrades to existing ships. They get special windows and a special blue metal material to boot. Some C-store ships do not have fleet variants, usually because they have a stat boost that makes them as good as a fleet ship in the first place (Command ships, Vesta, Andorian Escorts, others).One benefit of fleet ships, aside from the upgrade, is that these fleet ships are ships you can normally only get by paying for them with real money.To get a fleet ship, you need three things. Go to the fleet menu in your UI, it is the small button that looks like three side by side flying triangles directly below the minimap.First, you need to be in a fleet with a starbase capable of requisitioning the fleet ship. If you're in a reddit fleet, you've already met step one. Otherwise, look at your fleet's shipyard in the fleet menus to determine if it's unlocked the specific ship you're looking for. Fancier, higher end ships require a more developed shipyard.
Your fleet will also need provisions, but that's above your paygrade.Second, you need fleet credits. You turn in fleet marks (an award for fleet PvE Queues), dilithium, Duty Officers, or other resources to a fleet project in the fleet menu. Turning in resources nets you fleet credit. Certain things give you a higher return. Fleet marks are the highest return. Dilithium is 1-1.
Other things are less. Some ships require 20,000 fleet credits and fleet modules. Other ships require no fleet modules and 200,000 fleet credits. These are specialty ships, like tier 5 versions of tier 1-3 ships. They'll be called fleet retrofits in their names.Third, and lastly, you need fleet ship modules. Your average fleet ship requires 4.
Some fleet ships may require five. A single fleet ship module ('FSM') costs $5 USD in the zen store. You don't need to buy them there, however, because you can find them on the exchange too. People often convert $$ into energy credits by buying keys and FSMs and selling them on the exchange.
I haven't checked in a long time, but they went for about 7 million EC per FSM back then.Keep in mind, fleet ships are literally a 10% upgrade to a normal ship. They get 10% more hull, 10% more shields, an extra console slot (usually for their specialty; cruisers get engineering, etc). The one benefit fleet ships offer is that you can purchase a fleet ship without owning the ship normally. For instance, if you want an Avenger Battle Cruiser, but don't want to pay $25 in the zen store, you can save up your fleet credit and fleet ship modules and buy it through your fleet. The downside is that it will not come with its fancy console (most fancy consoles suck, though). It is also important to keep in mind that purchasing a ship in the zen store automatically discounts the FSM cost for a fleet ship from 4 to 1.

So if you buy the Avenger in the zen store, to get its fleet ship equivalent you only need to buy one FSM on top of that.You can contrast a fleet upgrade with the T5U Upgrade to Tier 5 ships. The T5U Upgrade grants more than 10% hull (on a sliding scale from level 50 to 60), starship mastery bonuses, and an additional console slot that varies based on ship class. You CAN Combine these. You can have a Fleet T5U Starship, gaining both upgrades. Purchasing the T5U upgrade for a ship will provide a discount to fleet modules, and allows you to automatically upgrade to T5U your fleet ship if/when you get it.Note: Fleet Ships are not one-time buys.
If you throw them out, you must buy them again. C-Store Purchases, and thus T5U upgrades, are permanent unlocks for a ship across your account.
Upgrade it once, all characters get the upgrade no matter how many times you discharge the ship. Fleet ships, once discharged, are gone.Tier 6 ships and Tier 6 Fleet Ships complicate things - Someone else will have to go over the pros and cons of a Tier 5 upgraded fleet ship vs. Tier 6 ships are generally superior to a Tier 5 fleet ship and equal to a tier 5 upgraded fleet ship. Thus, Tier 6 Fleet Ships are generally superior to both.
